The Complexity of E-commerce: Beyond the Shopping Cart

For a long time, talking about e-commerce meant thinking of a relatively simple sequence: a user finds a product, adds it to the cart, fills in their details, pays, and receives a confirmation. From the customer's perspective, that logic still exists. However, from the business perspective, much more occurs behind that click. A purchase can modify stock, create an order, register a payment, update customer information, activate a logistics operation, generate communications, feed analytics tools, and potentially initiate future commercial actions. Therefore, reducing e-commerce to just an online store is becoming too limited a view. The store is the visible part, but behind it lies a complete commercial infrastructure. A product is no longer just a photo and a price. Even before a sale exists, complexity has already begun. This article examines how modern e-commerce manages information beyond simple sales, becoming a driving force that enhances efficiency and customer satisfaction.
